Business & Administration Level 4 Higher Level Apprenticeship

There are a number of components that make up a Business & Administration Higher Level Apprenticeship. Here you will find an outline of the qualifications you will achieve and the units and vocational areas you will cover throughout your training as well as other important information such as timescales, funding and what this qualification can lead to.

Qualifications

Higher Level Apprenticeship in Business and Administration, which includes:

  • NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Business and Administration
  • Technical Certificate – Level 4 Diploma in Business and Administration
  • Functional Skills Maths Level 2
  • Functional Skills English Level 2
  • Functional Skills ICT Level 2

Units:

The apprenticeship is made up of mandatory units which cover the essential skills required for working within a business environment. There are then a variety of optional units to choose from which focus on the specific tasks you carry out within your role which could include:

  • Making decisions
  • Negotiating
  • Managing operational plans
  • Solving problems
  • Managing meetings/events
  • Using IT
  • Managing information and data
  • Managing business resources
  • Leadership and management

About The Training

Assessment method: There are various methods available that can be tailored to suit your needs, such as:

  • Observation
  • Examination of case history
  • Product evidence
  • Witness testimony
  • Questioning

All teaching, learning and assessment for the qualification will take place in the workplace. There is no requirement to attend college.

What About The Future?

Higher apprentices, with support and opportunities in the workplace, can progress onto:

  • the Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Leadership & Management
  • further or higher education to undertake business related or other qualifications, including Foundation Degrees in areas such as Business, Business Management, and Business Administration
  • a range of Business and Management undergraduate programmes
  • a range of Business or Management Professional Qualifications at level 5 and above
  • further employment opportunities within their current job role/alternative job roles
  • specialised qualifications providing additional technical knowledge
  • possible membership of professional bodies, including the Institute of Administrative Management

With additional training, Higher apprentices may be able to progress in their careers to roles including operations director, business development manager, company secretary or a wide range of managerial roles within business.

Further Information

Entry requirements: You must be employed in a business environment carrying out administration tasks for at least 16 hours per week.

It is expected that Higher apprentices will have significant experience of working in a business environment to ensure they have the suitable foundations on which to further build their knowledge and skills. Learners who do not have any business experience may be better suited to the Business & Administration Intermediate Apprenticeship. Learners who have only limited prior experience in a business orientated role may be better suited to the Business & Administration Advanced Apprenticeship.
