In September 2008 we started to pilot an 'in house' Customer Service Apprenticeship Programme. We needed the support of a company who had experience in the assessment and verification of apprenticeships and NVQs. Having successfully worked with the Scottish division of Joint Learning in the past, we were confident that this company had the ability to deliver our requirements.

The pilot was successfully completed in April 2009 and a large part of that success was due to the invaluable support and direction we received from Joint Learning. This support went far beyond the original scope of our agreement with them. They were flexible, reliable, knowledgeable and extremely professional in all that they did.

We are now in a position to roll-out the Customer Service Apprenticeship Programme across our business using the assessors and verifiers that Joint Learning supported through their A1 and V1 qualifications. They are continuing to work with us to provide the qualifications for the additional assessors and verifiers we now require.

Connaught Compliance Gas Services Ltd constantly strive to innovate and monitor ways of serving both internal and external customers. To achieve this we have introduced NVQs and Apprenticeships in Customer Service for all customer-facing consultants. Joint Learning effectively manages and monitors the programme internally and provides candidates with on-going help and support to complete the course.

Merseyside Police has worked in partnership with Joint Learning for a number of years. Joint Learning has delivered NVQ's and apprenticeships to both Police Officers and Police Staff across the force within many different and challenging departments with a current 87% success rate.

The learning has been tailored to our needs and provides a practical and flexible way for employees to achieve qualifications that reflect the roles they are carrying out. Assessment has been undertaken around work plans so it fits in with the working day without disrupting the schedules of employees.

These opportunities are providing a useful tool for staff to re-skill, to enable the professionalisation of the service and demonstrate the commitment to employee development.

The service Joint Learning has provided has been well received with some employees advancing onto level three qualifications. The feedback from many employees is that these opportunities will help boost their confidence particularly those employees with few or no formal qualifications.

The service provided has been well co-ordinated and a good working relationship with regular communication has developed.
